THE VITAMIN G GARDEN
Designers: Alan Williams, Jo Whiley & Landscapia
The Vitamin G Garden was designed by Alan Williams from Landform Consultants in conjunction with BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley, and built by Landscapia.
The Vitamin G Garden was the first RHS Feature Garden to come to RHS Malvern. It was inspired by the evidence-based research that was published in April 2021 by Professor Alistair Griffiths and Dr Lauriane Chalman-Pui that proves how gardening benefits our mental, physical and social wellbeing.
The garden was based around a series of interconnecting capsules that form a daily dose of Vitamin G. It incorporated an area for contemplation, relaxation and restoration. A studio filled with art and plants was sited here and hosted a science hub that gathered data from visitors capturing their responses to the garden. The studio opened out onto a meditation or yoga platform that nestled next to a plunge pool and circular lawned area. The adjacent area of the garden was inspired by social interaction.
The garden featured an enclosed paved area with dining table encircled by a reclaimed timber screen. The scented planting stimulated the senses and the mind, encouraging connections to be made around the table with neighbours, friends and family.
